Quick answer: Everlast boxing gloves are good for beginners and fighters on a tight budget. Their Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves are a good example of that. If you’re looking for something in the mid-or high-end, you’ll be better served by brands like RDX, Ringside or Title.
With over 18 years of martial arts experience, you can say I know a thing or two about combat sports gear! One of the questions I consistently see online is whether the most popular brands are worth the hype.
Being one of the most recognizable brands out there, Everlast make a lot of different products. But in this article, I’m only going to focus on their boxing gloves.
Drawing on my own experience with their boxing gloves, and pouring through tons of Amazon reviews and Reddit comments, I want to answer once and for all: Are Everlast boxing gloves good?

Are Everlast Boxing Gloves Good?
Everlast is one of the most recognizable boxing brands. They’ve been making boxing equipment since 1917. They’ve gone through many transformations throughout their long history, sponsoring the likes of Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali.
In recent decades, Everlast’s main line has specialized in cheap, entry-level gear. And if that’s what you’re looking for, then Everlast’s boxing gloves are a great choice.
In my experience, their mid-range is very lacklustre. They do have some good, high-end gear, but if that’s what you’re looking for, there are just better options out there. On the mid-range front, you’ll be better served by the likes of RDX, Ringside or Title. And when it comes to high-end boxing gloves, I’d recommend something like Cleto Reyes, Twins, or – if you’ve really got a really high budget – Winning.
Are Everlast Boxing Gloves Good for Beginners?
Along with brands like Trideer and Snabul, Everlast is one of the best options for beginners. They specialize in cheap, entry-level gear and their boxing gloves are no exception. A good example of that is their Pro Style Training Gloves which are the best option for beginners or fighters on a tight budget.

Are Everlast Gloves Good for Sparring?
If you’re looking for a good pair of cheap sparring gloves, I think your best bet is Trideer’s Pro Grade Boxing Gloves. This is because for sparring, you want a pair of gloves with thick and soft padding so that you don’t hurt your training partner.
Everlast’s gloves tend to run a little stiff, so they’re not the best option for sparring. Still, their high-end models – such as the Everlast Powerlock2 Pro Laced Training Gloves – use very soft padding, making them an excellent choice for sparring gloves.
Are Everlast Gloves Good for the Heavy Bag?
In my experience, this is where Everlast’s boxing gloves truly shine. Even though they mostly make budget gloves, they use very durable materials for the price, which is essential when it comes to working on the heavy bag.
This durability usually means that the gloves start off somewhat stiff. But once you’ve broken them in, you can be sure that they’ll last you for months to come working on the heavy bag.
You should only be concerned about their durability if you like having very intense workouts. But if you’re a beginner in boxing or you’re just not the most frequent heavy bag used, Everlast’s boxing gloves are great for working on the punching bag.

Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves
Everlast’s Pro Style Training Gloves are one of the most popular boxing gloves for beginners, and when you look at them, you can clearly see why.
They’re quite inexpensive and are perfect if you’re just starting out, or if you’re just not sure if you want to do boxing long-term. They’re made of 80% polyurethane and 20% plastic. Normally, this would make them not very durable. However, they’re surprisingly sturdy, especially given the low price.
I’ve used them in the past, and I’ve always been surprised at the breathability they offer.
Some users complain that they have a bad odor after use, but as long as you don’t leave them in a closed area (e.g. your gym bag), and let them ventilate, then you should be fine.
The breathability mesh is also a nice addition, although it’s not as breathable as some of Everlast’s more open-design gloves.
Now, If you punch very hard, then you might feel the padding getting thin. This was my problem with them. Since my workouts are more intense than what a beginner might do, my hands started getting sore. If you’re having the same problem and the feeling continues even with hand wraps, then you should consider upgrading to a more heavy-duty pair of gloves.
As it stands, though, the Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves are a great option for beginners looking for a good pair of budget boxing gloves.
What I like:
- Low price point
- Very durable for non-leather gloves
- Optimal protection for this price
- Easy to put on and off by yourself
What I don’t like:
- Synthetic materials. Low breathability
- Not recommended for advanced fighters
- Very few available designs
Everlast Powerlock Training Gloves
Like most of Everlast’s products, the Powerlock Training Gloves are meant to be affordable. But even though they’re made of polyurethane, most users have been pleasantly surprised by their durability.
They’ve got good construction and very decent padding, given the low price, so you can be sure that your hands will be protected.
Thanks to their thick velcro straps, they also offer very good wrist support. This makes them especially good if you’re a beginner because it’s going to help you build good punching form.
All that being said if you plan on having very intense workouts or you have a way above-average punching power, don’t expect them to last very long.
But if you’re a beginner, then the Everlast Powerlock Training Gloves are a great choice!
What I like:
- Low price point
- Very good wrist support
- Very durable for non-leather gloves
- Cool designs
What I don’t like:
- Made of polyurethane – low durability
- Not the best breathability
- Not recommended for advanced fighters
Everlast Train Advanced Wristwrap Heavy Bag Gloves
These Everlast Advanced Wristwrap Heavy Bag Gloves are aimed at the mid-range, in terms of pricing.
Given the light padding and open fingers, you’d be forgiven for thinking these are MMA gloves. But no, Everlast advertises them as heavy bag gloves.
In terms of materials, they’re made of synthetic leather and use foam padding.
And while they may look cool, in terms of quality, I’d rate them as below average. Both the padding and the leather are very thin and I wouldn’t expect it to last too long.
That being said, the wrist wrap is long and gives you great wrist support. The grip bar is also very comfortable.
If you do a lot of MMA, then this is a great choice for you.
But if you’re a pure boxer, at this price, you can definitely get something better than these bad-quality gloves.
What I like:
- Open-finger design – good if you also train MMA
- Very good wrist support
- Good breathability
What I don’t like:
- Very poor durability
- Very thin padding offers poor hand protection
- Bad value for money
Everlast Powerlock2 Pro Laced Training Gloves
Although I’ve been talking a lot about affordability and low price points, Everlast does offer higher-end boxing gloves, too.
So, to clear our pallets from the lacklustre Wristwrap Heavy Bag Gloves, let’s look at the Everlast Powerlock2 Pro Laced Training Gloves!
They’ve got multi-layered foam padding. In terms of density, I’d say it’s middle of the pack – not too thick, but not too thin, either.
This makes them a good option for heavy bag work, as well as sparring.
Like all their boxing gloves, the Powerlock2 Pro have stellar wrist support which is great both for beginners and advanced fighters who have strong punches.
It’s got an open design and lots of breathing holes, so your hands won’t get too sweaty after a long workout.
Overall, a great upgrade from the Pro Style Gloves and the original Powerlock Training Gloves.
What I like:
- Good padding – makes sure your hands stay protected
- Good for bag work and for sparring
- Very good breathability
What I don’t like:
- Snug fit – not the best if you’ve got bigger hands
- Not the cheapest option
What Does Reddit Think: Are Everlast Boxing Gloves Good?
Overall, Reddit doesn’t really like Everlast. And it makes perfect sense – if you’re part of a subreddit dedicated to boxing, chances are you’re very enthusiastic about the topic. This means that most of the people writing comments on here are at least somewhat advanced in their boxing skills, and as such they’ll naturally gravitate towards more expensive gear.
In addition to the alternative brands I’ve recommended above, such as Title, RDX and Cleto Reyes, they also recommend Adidas for people in Europe. You can see the full thread below:
