Best Speed Bag Swivel Overall: Outslayer Professional Heavy Duty Swivel
Best Speed Bag Swivel if you’re on a budget: MaxxMMA Speed Bag Swivel
Speed bags are a great addition to your workout. But the standard swivel most platforms come with are often subpar. They slow down your speed bag, break easily, and make too much noise. So, it’s often a good idea to upgrade by getting a better swivel for your platform.

MaxxMMA Speed Bag Swivel
The MaxMMA Speed Bag Swivel is very versatile and durable. It’s made out of relatively good quality stainless steel, and offers a good range of motion. It’s also very easy to install.
The only disadvantage it has is that it’s a bit long. This may cause your speed bag to hang a bit low, which could negatively impact your speed.
Still, it’s a very solid and affordable speed bag swivel, and I think it’s the best choice.
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Durable
- Moves smoothly
- Good value for money
Cons:
- A bit long, may negatively impact speed
Everlast Professional Speedbag Swivel
Like the MaxxMMa Speed Bag Swivel I’ve covered above, the Everlast Professional Speedbag Swivel is made out of decent quality stainless steel, and has a push pin that makes it easy to swap out speed bags.
A big benefit it has is the fact that it’s compatible with Everlast’s speed bag platforms. So, if you’re using one, installing this swivel will be extremely easy.
Like the MaxxMMa swivel, this one also makes your speed bag hang a bit low which can slow down its movement. Some users also complain about this swivel being noisy.
But overall, the Everlast Professional Speedbag Swivel is a good swivel at a good price, and I’d recommend it to anyone using an Everlast Speed Bag Platform.
Pros:
- Compatible with Everlast speed bag platforms
- Push pin makes it easy to swap out bags
- More durable than standard Everlast swivel
Cons:
- Very noisy
- Hangs quite low – makes it hard to reach a good speed
Outslayer Professional Heavy Duty Swivel
The Outslayer Professional Heavy Duty Swivel is made out of thick, high quality stainless steel that will definitely last you a long time. It’s quite compact, so it lets your speed bag hang high. Combined with its high-quality ball bearings, you can get your speed bag to a very high speed.
But while it’s very high quality, the Outslayer isn’t the cheapest speed bag swivel. But if you’re a very heavy speed bag user, you might find the added durability worth the price.
Pros:
- High-quality components make this swivel very durable
- Comes with excellent set of ball bearings that’ll last you for a long time
- Gives no resistance – allows your speed bag to move faster
Cons:
- Not the cheapest option
Forza Sports Evolution Speed Bag Swivel
The Forza Sports Evolution Speed Bag Swivel is one of the best ball-hook swivels on the market. Its brass ball bearing makes it very durable, and allows your speed bag to swing smoothly in all directions. It also helps make the swivel not nearly as loud as the other swivels I’ve looked at here.
The S-shaped hook makes it easy to switch speed bags. However, some users have had durability issues with it.
Apart from that, the screw holes aren’t spaced very far apart. This means that for some platforms, you’ll have to do some drilling in order to install it.
Overall, the Forza Sports Evolution Speed Bag Swivel is a very good choice if you prefer a ball-hook style speed bag swivel.
Pros:
- Easy to swap out bags
- Relatively quiet
- Wide range of motion
Cons:
- Some people had trouble with the S-hook’s durability
- Installation not as easy as other swivels
1. Main Types of Speed Bag Swivel
There are three main swivel types. Each one has their own set of advantages and disadvantages.
1.1. Ball-Hook Speed Bag Swivel
A ball-hook swivel works similar to a ball bearing. The speed bag is attached to a ball, and that ball is inside of a cylinder. This allows the swivel to swing freely in any direction. Ball-hook swivels have several things going for them:
- A very simple design. This lets you change bags very easily
- Out of all swivel variations, ball-hook swivels have the best rebound
- Thanks to their design, ball-hook swivels allow for the widest range of movement
In terms of downsides, they come down to two main points:
- They’re usually very loud
- They’re not as easy to maintain, because the ball they swivel on is inside a cylinder
Also, bear in mind that most ball-hook swivels aren’t made out of metal. So, finding a good, durable ball-hook swivel is tricky.
1.2. Chain-Hook Speed Bag Swivel
Chain-link swivels are a set of two chain links, tied to a small disk. The disk allows your speed bag to rotate, while the chain links allow it to swing back and forth. There are a couple of upsides to this type of swivel design:
- They’re very quiet, compared to other designs
- They’re usually very sturdy
In terms of downsides, the main drawbacks of chain-hook speed bag swivels are as follows:
- A bit harder to install
- Changing speed bags isn’t as convenient as with other designs
1.3. U-Bolt Speed Bag Swivel / Precision Swivel
Sometimes called a D-bolt swivel, this type of speed bag swivel is by far the most popular and most widely used. Here, the speed bag hangs from a U-shaped bolt, using a locking pin. The whole mechanism uses a ball bearing to give your speed bag a wide range of motion.
In terms of pros, U-bolt speed bag swivels:
- Offer really fast and accurate rebounds
- Make swapping speed bags extremely easy, thanks to the locking pin
- Easy to install
The major downside is that speed bags sometimes slide along the length of the U-bolt, sometimes leading to awkward rebounds.
2. Which Type of Swivel Should You Go For?
In terms of which design is better, it all depends on personal preference. Some people like ball-hook swivels, due to the good rebound they provide. Others prefer chain-link swivels, because they’re more sturdy, or just because they don’t swap their speed bags all that often. Then, there are those types of people who prefer U-bolt swivels, because they’re easy to install and maintain, while still providing some good rebound.
3. What Else Should You Consider
There are a number of other factors you need to take into account when buying a speed bag swivel.
3.1. Materials
The best speed bag swivels are usually made out of thick, stainless steel. Obviously, the thicker the steel, the more durable your swivel is going to be. Cheaper swivels use plastic, and can break very easily. So much so that they’re most often not worth the money. So, even if you’re on a budget, you should aim to get a steel swivel. Even if it’s a bit pricier, it’s worth the investment.
3.2. Price
A high price usually indicates high quality. But like most goods, some well known brands inflate their prices not because their product is better, but because people recognize the brand, and are willing to pay extra for it.
So even though a high price can be a good guide for quality, it shouldn’t be the only determining factor.
